.uk domain rules and policies

.uk is the ccTLD for the United Kingdom. There are restricted second level domains that must be used, .co.uk (generic commercial), .org.uk (generic organisation), .me.uk (personal only), .ltd.uk and .plc.uk (UK companies only), .net.uk (UK ISPs only).

The UK Registry is called Nominet and can be found online at www.nominet.org.uk

Registration of .uk Domains

Each SLD has different rules for qualification, however .co.uk and .org.uk are mostly unrestricted. .ltd.uk and .plc.uk require a registered UK company (with Companies House) and may only be the company name. .net.uk requires an AS number and appropriate network registration in the UK.
